ANKARA, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- A 5.4 magnitude earthquake struck Türkiye's southeastern province of Sanliurfa on Thursday, with no casualties reported so far, the country's disaster agency said.
The Disaster and Emergency Management Authority said in a social media post that the earthquake occurred at 10:40 a.m. local time (0740 GMT) at a depth of 7.3 km in the Karakopru district.
Tremors from the quake were also felt across neighboring provinces of Adiyaman and Gaziantep, while field scanning operations continue, the agency said.
Private broadcaster NTV reported that panicked people took to the streets in Sanliurfa Province while local authorities called for calm.
"Assessments are being made," Hasan Sildak, governor of Sanliurfa, said on NTV.
Türkiye is crisscrossed by several active seismic fault lines. ■
