BERLIN, Sept. 22 (Xinhua) -- A U.S. military aircraft crashed on Tuesday afternoon at Spangdahlem Air Base in western Germany, leaving one person injured, local broadcaster SWR reported.
Fire and disaster relief personnel were dispatched to the scene following the incident, SWR said.
According to the report, the crashed aircraft was an F-16 fighter jet, which came down following a training exercise. Witnesses near the air base reported seeing a jet descending rapidly, followed by a large column of smoke.
The air base, located in the Eifel region of the western state of Rhineland-Palatinate, hosts a squadron of U.S. Air Force F-16 fighter jets. ■
