BUDAPEST, Sept. 22 (Xinhua) -- Hungarian authorities have fined MOL Petrochemicals 38 million forints (120,000 U.S. dollars) over safety shortcomings uncovered in an investigation into a deadly explosion at its plant in eastern Hungary in May, according to local news portal Borsod Online.
The fine was imposed by the country's occupational safety authority following an investigation into the May 22 accident at MOL Petrochemicals' site in Tiszaujvaros, Borsod Online reported on Monday evening, citing information from the Ministry of Social and Family Affairs.
One worker was killed in the explosion. Four others were seriously injured and seven sustained minor injuries, according to the ministry.
The investigation found that safety systems in the part of the plant affected by the explosion did not fully meet related requirement, said the ministry. Authorities ordered MOL Petrochemicals to review its safety systems and carry out regular maintenance of pipelines and other equipment. ■
