ZAGREB, Sept. 18 (Xinhua) -- A small aircraft made a forced landing near the eastern Croatian town of Vinkovci on Friday, killing the pilot, local police said.

Police and emergency services were dispatched to the scene after receiving a report of the accident at around 10:05 a.m. local time (0805 GMT), according to the Vukovar-Srijem County police department.

Emergency medical workers found the aircraft and confirmed the death of the pilot, police said.

An on-site investigation is underway to determine the circumstances and cause of the accident.

This was the third fatal aircraft accident in Croatia in recent months. On June 4, a small aircraft crashed near Medulin in Istria, killing four Austrian nationals. On Aug. 21, an ultralight aircraft crashed on Mount Velebit in coastal Croatia, killing two people.
