SARAJEVO, Sept. 17 (Xinhua) -- Border Police of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) and the Indirect Taxation Authority of BiH seized 1,095 kg of synthetic narcotics in a joint operation in Ilijas municipality in Sarajevo Canton, the Border Police said Thursday.
The seizure was made on Sept. 16 and 17, following an investigation, with assistance from police officers of the Sarajevo Canton Ministry of the Interior.
The seized substance is an extremely dangerous synthetic cathinone used as a substitute for cocaine and ecstasy, according to the Border Police. Its estimated market value is 5 million euros (about 5.8 million U.S. dollars).
In addition to the drugs, authorities seized firearms, mobile phones, stamps and business documents, as well as protective equipment used during the chemical synthesis and production of illegal substances.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH and in accordance with orders issued by the Court of BiH.
One person was apprehended. Searches at several locations were continuing Thursday. ■
