SARAJEVO, Sept. 6 (Xinhua) -- Sarajevo Canton of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) recorded an 8-percent year-on-year increase in tourist arrivals in August, with the number of foreign visitors surging by 14 percent, the Sarajevo Canton Tourism Board said on social media on Sunday.

In the first eight months of 2026, the canton welcomed a total of 586,952 tourist arrivals, generating 1,370,893 overnight stays, a 3.3-percent increase compared with the same period last year. Overnight stays by international tourists accounted for 1,210,417 of the total.

Haris Fazlagic, president of the Sarajevo Canton Tourism Board, noted that the figures reflect steady visitor flows and particularly encouraging growth in overnight stays, indicating stronger destination loyalty.

According to the statistics, the leading source markets for Sarajevo's foreign tourists are Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Germany, Israel, Croatia, the United States, Serbia, Britain, China and Italy.

Various events boosted tourism this summer, including a three-night concert by a local music icon and the Sarajevo Film Festival in August, which recorded 43,010 visitors, up 2.4 percent year-on-year. Other music and sports events also drew visitors during the season.

"We will continue to step up promotion of Sarajevo in key markets, develop new tourism products, and create more reasons for visitors to extend their stays and return," Fazlagic said.
