ANKARA, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) -- Türkiye's annual inflation eased slightly to 31.51 percent in August, down from the previous month's 31.75 percent, as consumer prices edged up 1.84 percent month-on-month, the Turkish Statistical Institute announced Thursday.
The decline marked the third consecutive month of cooling price growth.
Türkiye's annual inflation eased to 30.89 percent at the end of 2025 before rising to 32.6 percent in May, as food prices surged due to adverse weather conditions earlier this year and higher energy costs linked to geopolitical tensions.
Türkiye has been struggling with high inflation for nearly a decade.
The country's gross domestic product (GDP) expanded just 2.3 percent year-on-year in the second quarter of 2026, down from 2.5 percent in the previous quarter, and well below the government's medium-term program target of 3.8 percent for the year, according to official data released on Aug. 31.
Türkiye is finalizing its new three-year economic Medium-Term Program for 2027-2029, which will be unveiled in September alongside the 2027 central government budget rollout. ■
