THE HAGUE, Sept. 1 (Xinhua) -- The Netherlands' inflation rate rose to 3.3 percent year-on-year in August, slightly up from 3.2 percent in July, according to a flash estimate released by Statistics Netherlands (CBS) on Tuesday, while the acceleration in energy and fuel prices points to renewed price pressures ahead.

According to CBS, energy include motor fuels prices rose by 11.7 percent year-on-year in August, accelerating from 9.7 percent in July. Meanwhile, inflation for non-energy industrial goods stood at 1.4 percent, rising slightly from 1.2 percent in July.

"Energy and fuel inflation, however, accelerated to double digits. Together with world food prices, this foreshadows a re-acceleration of overall inflation in the months to come," Marcel Klok, senior economist at ING Netherlands, said on Tuesday.

Klok added year-on-year inflation could approach, or even exceed, 3.5 percent toward the end of this year or in early 2027.
