THE HAGUE, Aug. 24 (Xinhua) -- Dutch police said 16 people were taken to hospital after an Austrian coach carrying German high school students collided with a delivery van near Wezep in the eastern Netherlands early Monday morning.
"Fifteen people from the coach and the driver of the delivery van were taken to hospital. The van driver was seriously injured," police said in a social media post. Police said they were alerted to the accident at around 4:20 a.m. local time (0220 GMT).
According to German regional broadcaster NDR, the coach was carrying 54 high school students and four teachers traveling to Paris. Most of the students are expected to return to their school later Monday.
The local safety region said that those involved in the accident who were not taken to hospital are being accommodated at a reception center in Wezep.
The Dutch Forensic Traffic Investigation Unit will investigate the crash to determine its cause. ■
