MADRID, Aug. 16 (Xinhua) -- A member of Spain's Military Emergency Unit (UME) was killed and three others were injured on Sunday in an accident while fighting a major wildfire in the northeastern province of Huesca, local authorities said.
The accident occurred on the Bernues road when a vehicle carrying UME personnel overturned while they were taking part in efforts to extinguish the wildfire in Las Penas de Riglos in Huesca.
The cause of the accident is under investigation, according to Spanish media reports.
The wildfire, which broke out on Monday, has burned around 16,000 hectares of land and prompted a large-scale emergency response. More than 1,000 personnel from various agencies were involved in firefighting operations on Sunday, including more than 570 members of the UME. ■
