BRUSSELS, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- Three people were injured in a gas explosion at a building near Brussels Central Station on Friday, local media reported.

After a low-pressure gas pipe was damaged during construction work at a building near the railway station, firefighters and staff from Brussels energy distribution network operator Sibelga were subsequently dispatched to the scene.

Around 100 people inside the building were evacuated as a precaution, and the street was cordoned off.

At around 1:30 p.m. (1130 GMT), an explosion occurred inside the building while emergency crews were dealing with the gas leak, leading to the injury of three people, including two Sibelga employees.

The building houses the offices of the European Union's Single Resolution Board. The exact cause of the accident is currently being investigated.
