LJUBLJANA, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- Slovenia's gross domestic product (GDP) expanded by 5 percent year-on-year in the second quarter of 2026, the strongest growth since the first quarter of 2022, the country's Statistical Office said Friday.
The growth accelerated from the first quarter, when it stood at 3.2 percent according to revised figures.
According to the office, domestic expenditure grew by 5.9 percent in the second quarter, driven by final consumption and gross capital formation which rose by 4 percent and 12.3 percent, respectively.
Expenditure for purchases on the domestic market went up in all product groups, the most in durable goods, by 10.1 percent, followed by services, by 3.7 percent, the office said.
The increase in external trade was the largest in the last two years, with exports growing by 6.4 percent and imports by 7.6 percent.
The Bank of Slovenia, which in June forecast annual GDP growth of 1.9 percent in 2026, said on Friday that the growth in the second quarter was above expectations.
It added, however, that prospects for the rest of the year are uncertain due to challenging international conditions, particularly the war in the Middle East and severe drought in Europe. ■
