TIRANA, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- Nine wildfire hotspots remained active across Albania on Wednesday as firefighters and military personnel continued efforts to contain fires in several parts of the country, the Albanian Telegraphic Agency reported.

Albania's Ministry of Defence said that 25 wildfires had been recorded nationwide over the previous 24 hours, prompting the deployment of 41 firefighting vehicles, 395 operational personnel and 167 Armed Forces personnel.

The Kruja area, about 30 km north of the capital Tirana, remained one of the main areas of concern. Firefighting teams were working in the Abaze and Kraste-Halil areas, with military personnel and helicopters deployed near homes as a precaution.

In Dajt, east of Tirana, firefighters and protected-area personnel continued to battle a fire above the Qafe Molle tunnels, supported by Air Force helicopters. Another fire was being tackled in Drenie, in Patos Municipality in southern Albania, where military personnel were assisting ground crews.

The latest flare-ups came as Albania faces a period of heightened wildfire risk, with high temperatures and dry conditions contributing to the spread of fires.
