WARSAW, Aug. 13 (Xinhua) -- Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Affairs Krzysztof Gawkowski provided an update Thursday on a major breach involving citizens' medical data, saying the stolen information was not publicly available or being offered for sale, the Polish Press Agency reported.
The Ministry of Digital Affairs confirmed Wednesday that the cyberattack on MyDr, one of the country's largest providers of electronic medical record systems, had resulted in the theft of data linked to nearly 19 million Polish citizens.
The stolen database contains more than two terabytes of information, including data related to medicines and prescriptions.
Gawkowski said authorities were working to transfer the affected records to state-run systems, where individuals would be able to check whether their information had been stolen.
He also urged citizens to place restrictions on the use of their national identification numbers as a precaution.
Security services are investigating the group behind the attack. Gawkowski said there was currently no indication of involvement from outside Poland, adding that the security flaws linked to the incident had been identified and fixed. ■
