MADRID, Aug. 13 (Xinhua) -- The 2027 edition of the Spanish Supercup will be held in the Turkish capital of Istanbul, the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) announced on Thursday.
The move is because the tournament, cannot be held in Saudi Arabia as the country is hosting the Asian Cup at the same time.
The 2027 Supercup will be held between February 2nd and February 7th, which this season sees La Liga winners, FC Barcelona, Copa del Rey holders, Real Sociedad, along with Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid, with Barcelona facing Atletico and Real Sociedad against Real Madrid in the two semi-finals.
The RFEF issues a communique in which it highlighted the move guaranteed "the continuity of the benefits which Spanish football obtains through the celebration of this tournament: benefits which have a direct destination in almost a thousand men and women's clubs of all categories."
The organization also insisted the Supercup would return to Saudi Arabia in 2028. ■
