TALLINN, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- The Baltic region's first large-scale artificial intelligence (AI) factory is expected to begin operations in Estonia later this year, with an initial capacity of 22 megawatts, Estonian Public Broadcasting (ERR) reported on Wednesday.
The facility will be operated by Amsterdam-headquartered AI cloud company Nebius at the Greenergy Data Centers complex near Tallinn. Nasdaq-listed Nebius said the project forms part of its ongoing expansion of AI infrastructure across Europe.
Tom Blackwell, head of communications at Nebius, said Estonia was a natural choice for the company because of its engineering talent, digital economy, startup culture, and ambitions in AI and clean energy.
Nebius has been rapidly expanding its computing capacity in Europe. It is developing large-scale AI facilities in Finland and France, while also operating infrastructure projects in Britain, Spain and Iceland. ■
