SOFIA, July 31 (Xinhua) -- Bulgaria's National Assembly on Friday decided to hold the country's regular presidential election on Oct. 25.
The Bulgarian president is elected directly by the voters for a five-year term. A candidate is elected by receiving more than half of the valid votes, provided that more than half of all eligible voters have cast their ballots.
If no candidate secures the required majority, a second round of voting shall be held within seven days between the top two candidates. The candidate with the most votes in the second round shall win.
Incumbent Bulgarian President Iliana Iotova, who assumed the presidency in January following the resignation of former President Rumen Radev, said in an interview with Bulgarian National Television on July 24 that she would run for the election. ■
