LJUBLJANA, July 24 (Xinhua) -- The Slovenian government on Friday approved a temporary suspension of certain gasoline duties for two months in a bid to cushion fuel price increases driven by rising global oil prices amid the Middle East conflict.
Under the measure, duties related to energy efficiency and carbon dioxide emissions will be waived from July 28 to Sept. 28 to help prevent a sharp rise in retail gasoline prices, the government said in a statement.
It said the increase in oil product supply prices resulting from the military conflict involving Iran has directly affected retail fuel prices.
The latest move followed the government's decision last month to extend fuel price controls at service stations outside highways through December. Under the price control mechanism, fuel prices outside highways remain about 10 percent lower than those at highway service stations, where retailers are allowed to set prices freely. ■
