LONDON, July 24 (Xinhua) -- Irish police found a bomb in a car intercepted as it was being driven across the border to Northern Ireland, according to Irish public broadcaster RTE.
The car was stopped on Friday south of Carrickmacross in Co Monaghan, before a "sophisticated" and "ready for use" bomb containing a power unit, a detonator and military grade explosives was discovered.
The "significant explosive device" was expected to be used as an under-car explosive in an attack in Northern Ireland, according to local police.
The driver, a woman in her 20s, was arrested, followed by the arrest of a man in his 40s.
In April, a delivery driver's car was hijacked in west Belfast, Northern Ireland, and a gas cylinder device was placed in the vehicle, before the driver was ordered to drive to Dunmurry police station. The car exploded outside the police station, but no casualties were caused. ■
