ROME, July 22 (Xinhua) -- Italy will host a meeting of the Global Alliance for the Two-State Solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in Rome on July 28-29, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said on Wednesday, according to Italy's ANSA news agency.

Speaking before a joint session of parliament's foreign affairs and defence committees, Tajani said he would co-chair the meeting with his Saudi counterpart.

The meeting aims to advance implementation of the New York Declaration signed last year and will place particular emphasis on interfaith dialogue, which Tajani described as essential to strengthening prospects for peace.

Tajani also announced that a new round of talks on Lebanon will be held in Rome on Aug. 4, following a meeting hosted by the Italian capital last week on the implementation of the agreement between Israel and the Lebanese government. He said Italy would continue to play a leading role in promoting dialogue and regional stability.

The foreign minister also called for ensuring freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, saying Italy would contribute to efforts to ease tensions in the Gulf region.
