MOSCOW, July 21 (Xinhua) -- The Russian foreign ministry summoned Moldovan Ambassador to Russia Lilian Darii on Tuesday over what Moscow calls "a violation by Moldova of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations" involving staff and vehicles of the Russian Embassy in Moldova, the TASS news agency reported, citing the ministry.
On Sunday, Moldovan police stopped a Russian embassy bus in the capital of Chisinau for document checks and removed its diplomatic license plates without explanation, the ministry said, noting that the police "threatened to detain Russian embassy staff and used force against them."
The Russian embassy's request to the Moldovan foreign ministry to send a representative for clarification was ignored, it said.
In another incident, Russian embassy staff members were "unreasonably detained" for more than four hours overnight from Monday to Tuesday at the Leuseni border crossing on their way to deliver official cargo to Russia.
The ministry informed the Moldovan ambassador that the Moldovan side's actions are against the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations and Moscow "reserves the right to take reciprocal measures."
Previously, the Moldovan ambassador was summoned on June 26 to receive a protest over the "unlawful detention" of Russian diplomatic couriers at the airport of the Moldovan capital. ■
