VITEBSK, Belarus, July 17 (Xinhua) -- The 35th International Festival of Arts "Slavianski Bazaar" kicked off on Thursday in Belarusian city of Vitebsk, bringing together artists and audiences from around the world to foster cultural exchange through art.

The festival runs through July 20, featuring concerts, exhibitions and various cultural events. This year's event has drawn a record 8,000 artists from 52 countries.

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said in his opening speech that the festival reflects the history and unity of nations, transcending political and social divisions.

Noting that the festival was conceived during a time of global change and unrest, he said it has become a vital platform for cultural expression and mutual understanding.

Despite challenges, the festival has continued to bring together artists and audiences from around the world, demonstrating that art knows no borders, Lukashenko said. Over the years, more than 18,000 performers have graced the festival stages, transforming Vitebsk into a cultural hub, he added.

Lukashenko reaffirmed Belarusian commitment to fostering international friendship through the festival, especially among nations with shared cultural ties.
