MADRID, July 16 (Xinhua) -- Algerian international center-back Aissa Mandi has returned to La Liga after Levante announced on Thursday that the 34-year-old had signed a two-year contract on a free transfer.
Mandi, who has made 123 appearances for his country, including playing in all four of Algeria's matches at this summer's World Cup, returns to Spain after spending the past two seasons with Lille. He made 40 appearances in Ligue 1 and the Europa League last season.
The defender brings extensive La Liga experience, having spent five years with Real Betis and three with Villarreal. He has made 202 appearances in the competition, as well as seven in the Champions League and 22 in the Europa League.
Levante's website confirmed that Mandi will undergo medical tests before joining coach Luis Castro's squad in the coming days.
Mandi is Levante's second signing of the summer following the arrival of 25-year-old French midfielder Enzo Bardeli from Dunkerque. ■
