Ukrainian parliament appoints new PM

KIEV, July 16 (Xinhua) -- The Ukrainian parliament on Thursday voted to appoint Sergii Koretskyi, CEO of Ukraine's state energy company Naftogaz, as the country's new prime minister.

The nomination, submitted by President Volodymyr Zelensky, was supported by 289 lawmakers, surpassing the minimum number of votes required.

Addressing the parliament, Koretskyi said his priorities are preparing the country for the winter, supporting business for economic stability, strengthening cooperation with partners, and achieving progress on the path towards Ukraine's European Union membership.

Koretskyi, 48, is an entrepreneur who has held executive and senior management positions at various companies in the energy sector, including Naftogaz, which he has led since May 2025.
