PARIS, July 14 (Xinhua) -- More than 2,000 hectares of the Fontainebleau Forest in France have been affected by fire, and the blaze is still spreading, local authorities said Tuesday.

An initial fire which broke out on Sunday evening burned about 1,600 hectares, while a second fire which broke out on Monday afternoon near the castle ground, spread overnight burning about 450 hectares.

Some 850 firefighters have been deployed to the scene, supported by four water-bombing aircraft. Local authorities have reassured the public that there are no casualties at this stage, although approximately 1,000 residents have had to be evacuated.

Preliminary investigation suggest the fire could be set intentionally. Two suspects have been arrested, French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez said on Monday evening.
