LONDON, July 13 (Xinhua) -- A major incident has been declared as firefighters battle a wildfire near Glossop in England's Peak District, local emergency services said on Monday.
Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service said the fire had spread across land near Arnfield Farm and Tintwistle Moor. Crews returned to Tintwistle Moor at around 1:15 a.m. after high winds intensified the blaze, prompting firefighting operations to resume.
Aerial footage broadcast by Sky News showed thick smoke billowing across a vast area of moorland.
The incident came a day after emergency services declared a major incident over a large wildfire near Sychnant Pass on Conwy Mountain in north Wales.
Britain has been experiencing another spell of hot, dry weather. The Met Office said mostly dry, sunny and very warm conditions would continue this week, with temperatures expected to peak at 30 to 32 degrees Celsius in parts of England and Wales. ■
