MAPUTO, July 10 (Xinhua) -- Mozambique and Russia agreed on Thursday to deepen cooperation in trade, investment, education and security during Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov's two-day working visit to the southern African country.

During his visit, Lavrov held talks with Mozambican President Daniel Chapo and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Maria Manuela Lucas in Maputo.

At a joint press conference, Lavrov reaffirmed Russia's support for Mozambique's efforts to combat terrorism and restore stability in the northern province of Cabo Delgado.

He said Russia would continue assisting Mozambique through personnel training and the supply of military equipment.

Noting that security cooperation is a key pillar of bilateral relations, Lucas said the two countries would continue working together in the fight against terrorism.

Lavrov also pledged continued humanitarian assistance to Mozambique in its response to natural disasters, both bilaterally and through the World Food Program.
