LISBON, July 9 (Xinhua) -- Portugal received 29.9 million international tourists in 2025, reflecting a 3.3 percent increase from the previous year, though the pace of growth slowed markedly from the 9.3 percent expansion recorded in 2024, the national statistics institute INE reported Thursday.
Spain remained the leading source market despite a 0.6 percent decline, accounting for 23.8 percent of total arrivals, followed by Britain and France.
Average spending per tourist declined 4.2 percent from 2024, settling at 265.1 euros (303.07 U.S. dollars) per trip.
Seasonality continued to ease, with the seasonality rate falling to 36.4 percent, the lowest level since 2013, reflecting a broader distribution of tourist flows throughout the year.
Despite the moderation in visitor growth, experts said Portugal continues to benefit from its reputation as a safe destination, its mild climate and rich historical heritage. The expansion of air routes and the diversification of cultural offerings beyond the major cities also boost the sector. ■
