BERLIN, July 8 (Xinhua) -- A 16-year-old suspect was arrested after several people were injured in a shooting incident at a high school in Schongau, in the southern German state of Bavaria, on Wednesday, the German Press Agency (dpa) reported, citing the police.
At least two girls were seriously injured and taken to hospital, a police spokesperson was quoted by dpa as saying. It remained unclear whether they were students of the school.
Police said earlier that the number of the injured was estimated to be in the single digit.
It was not immediately clear whether the 16-year-old suspect attended the school, according to police.
A large number of police officers and emergency workers were deployed to the school. Authorities urged people to avoid the area and set up a contact point for parents and relatives of students at a nearby fire station, the report said.
Schongau is a small city in Bavaria with more than 12,000 residents. ■
