LISBON, July 7 (Xinhua) -- Two people were killed and 14 others injured, four of them seriously, after a Carris Metropolitana bus veered off the road and struck pedestrians on Tuesday morning in Sintra municipality, according to Portuguese civil protection authorities.
The Sub-Regional Command for Greater Lisbon of the National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection (ANEPC) said the accident occurred at 9:42 a.m. local time on Rua Elias Garcia.
According to the Lusa news agency, the dead were two women aged between 30 and 40.
A total of 35 emergency responders and 16 vehicles were deployed to the scene, along with an emergency psychological support team.
The cause of the accident is under investigation. ■
