SOFIA, July 7 (Xinhua) -- Moldovan President Maia Sandu signed a decree on Tuesday appointing Eugen Osmochescu as interim prime minister. Osmochescu will assume the duties of head of government since Wednesday until a new government is formed.
Under relevant legislation, Osmochescu will lead the government during the transition period following former prime minister Alexandru Munteanu's announcement of resignation on July 3.
Sandu will hold consultations with parliamentary factions this week to identify a candidate for the post of prime minister. The nominee will be required to present a governing program and a proposed list of cabinet members to parliament for a vote of confidence, according to the official Moldpres news agency. ■
