LJUBLJANA, July 3 (Xinhua) -- The number of registered unemployed people in Slovenia fell to its lowest level since 1990 in June, reflecting the country's tight labor market, according to data released by the Employment Service of Slovenia on Friday.
A total of 42,245 people were registered as unemployed at the end of June, down 1.9 percent from May and 0.4 percent year-on-year. Employers reported 15,244 job vacancies during the month, up 17.1 percent from May, with the strongest demand in education, manufacturing, health and social services, and construction.
Facing persistent labor shortages, Slovenia has stepped up efforts to attract foreign workers. In November last year, the Ministry of Labour introduced a fast-track employment scheme for workers from Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina to fill shortages in sectors including agriculture, construction, manufacturing, tourism, and health and social services.
Foreign nationals currently account for about 16 percent of Slovenia's workforce. According to a recent analysis by the Ministry of Labour, their share is projected to rise to around 26 percent by 2030. ■
