ALIBUNAR, Serbia, June 24 (Xinhua) -- Construction of the Alibunar wind farm project officially began on Wednesday in the northern Serbian municipality of Alibunar.
The project, to be built by China's SANY Renewable Energy Co., Ltd., will be equipped with 40 wind turbines independently developed and manufactured by Chinese enterprises. With a total installed capacity of 168 megawatts, the wind farm is expected to generate about 430 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually.
After completion, the project is expected to meet the annual electricity demand of more than 100,000 households.
Zorana Bratic, mayor of Alibunar, said the project would contribute to the municipality's economic development and help enhance the stability of Serbia's power system.
She added that local authorities would provide the necessary support to ensure the smooth implementation of the project. ■
