BARCELONA, Spain, June 20 (Xinhua) -- An exhibition in the Spanish city of Barcelona which showcases the influence of ancient Cypriot art on Pablo Picasso, the world-famous Spanish painter, has attracted many international visitors.

The exhibition titled "Picasso and Cyprus: Encounters with Ceramics of the Mediterranean" runs from June 6 to Sept. 27 at the Picasso Museum here. Organized in eight sections, it displays a selection of Picasso's ceramic works alongside artifacts from ancient Cyprus to highlight their shared symbolic features.

"It's a very interesting and different exhibition. It's not an exhibition where you have to stand looking at a painting for a long time. Those who like it most are who like the subject of ceramics and crafts," said Silvia Trabalon, one of the museum staff, on Friday.

"In the exhibition, we see how artworks from Cyprus influenced him (Picasso) in developing various ceramic works," and how he took those elements to make more modern works," said Karla Flores Pulido, a visitor from Mexico.

The exhibition features artworks from museums and collections across Europe, including significant contributions from the collections of the Barcelona Picasso Museum and the Department of Antiquities of Cyprus.

Picasso's museum in Barcelona is one of the city's most popular tourist attractions, attracting more than one million visitors annually and up to 4,000 people a day during the peak season, according to the museum.
