BELGRADE, June 20 (Xinhua) -- From electric vehicles to massive wind power projects, China's green innovations emerged as the defining themes of the inaugural Horizons Forum in Serbia's capital Belgrade.

In his opening remarks, Vuk Jeremic, president of the Center for International Relations and Sustainable Development and former foreign minister of Serbia, said that the global energy system is at a critical crossroads in urgent need of transition, noting that traditional fossil energy systems have shown higher vulnerability when responding to global crises, whereas countries that continuously invest in renewable energy infrastructure have demonstrated stronger resilience.

Highlighting practical examples of cross-border connectivity during a keynote presentation on Thursday, Jeffrey Sachs, professor at Columbia University, said that the technological and industrial systems represented by China's smart grids and electric vehicles provide solutions that make the world run more efficiently.

On the topic of infrastructure, Zhang Chuanwei, founder and chairman of Ming Yang Smart Energy, told Xinhua that "Chinese enterprises possess unique advantages in the fields of new and renewable energy, and through long-term practice have built a complete, mature technological system and industrial capacity that can be promoted and applied globally."

"I believe that the global layout of Chinese enterprises will form a virtuous cycle, continuously creating greater value for the global energy transition," Zhang said.

BYD Executive Vice President Li Ke said that the automotive industry is undergoing a new round of technological and industrial transformation, and that BYD is introducing advanced technologies to the European market while working to upgrade local supply chains.

Chairman of the Board of WARMICO, Mit Gusev, told Xinhua that European enterprises welcome Chinese companies' investment and cooperation in the new energy sector. "Cooperation is far more valuable than confrontation. Various restrictions will eventually gradually dissipate, and future cooperation and integration are an irreversible trend," Gusev said.

The "Horizons" Sustainability and Connectivity Forum was held on June 18 and 19 and was co-hosted by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Serbia and the Center for International Relations and Sustainable Development.
