HELSINKI, June 15 (Xinhua) -- Swedish Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard on Monday welcomed the announcement that the United States and Iran had reached an agreement, saying the developments in the Gulf have shown that security and prosperity are closely linked.
"The past few months have made it clear that our security and our prosperity are closely connected with what happens in the Gulf. It is therefore welcome news that the United States and Iran have reached an agreement," Stenergard said in a statement.
She said the announcement was important for Sweden and for the Swedish economy.
"Although the exact details remain to be seen, this could constitute an important step toward a long-term and sustainable solution," she said.
Stenergard added that it was now of utmost importance that free and safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz be restored swiftly. ■
