MOSCOW, June 11 (Xinhua) -- Nearly 6 million tourists visited Moscow in the first quarter of 2026, of whom over 550,000 were international arrivals, marking a 5 percent year-on-year increase, the Moscow City Tourism Committee said Thursday.
Visitors from outside the Commonwealth of Independent States countries (CIS) rose by 12 percent, said the committee's press service on its website.
The number of Chinese travellers visiting Moscow in the first quarter of this year rose by one-third, followed by visitors from India and Turkey, said Moscow Deputy Mayor Natalya Sergunina.
She said tourist arrivals from China continue to grow, driven by bilateral cross-cultural initiatives and the reciprocal visa-free regime launched in 2025.
The committee said Moscow hosted Chinese New Year celebrations from Feb. 16 to March 1 at more than 60 venues. Residents and tourists watched performances by Chinese artists, participated in interactive activities and sampled authentic Chinese delicacies.
Official data shows that Moscow received 26.5 million visitors in 2025, including 2.8 million foreigners. ■
