LONDON, June 10 (Xinhua) -- A tanker caught fire in its engine room about 20 nautical miles northeast of Sohar, Oman, leaving one casualty and two crew members missing, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said on Wednesday.
According to a UKMTO advisory citing local authorities, emergency responders are assisting with the evacuation of the crew. No environmental impact has been reported.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident, the advisory said.
The incident occurred amid heightened security concerns in and around the Strait of Hormuz. According to the International Maritime Organization, 42 maritime incidents have been confirmed in the region since the escalation of the conflict in late February, resulting in 11 seafarer fatalities as of June 9. ■
