YEREVAN, June 1 (Xinhua) -- Armenia on Monday launched the first artificial intelligence factory in the South Caucasus, a high-performance computing facility designed to support large-scale AI development and research, local media reported.
The facility was developed by Armenian AI infrastructure company Eleveight AI and is based on NVIDIA Blackwell B300 GPUs, enabling advanced workloads including model training, scientific research and industrial applications.
The project, with an initial investment of 120 million U.S. dollars, aims to strengthen Armenia's position in the global AI ecosystem by providing sovereign computing capacity and reducing dependence on external infrastructure providers.
Eleveight AI said the initiative is intended to place Armenia on the global AI map by building world-class infrastructure in the region. "In the era of artificial intelligence, computing power has become strategic infrastructure. Armenia should not only follow these changes but also participate in shaping them," said Arman Aleksanyan, co-founder and CEO of Eleveight AI.
The facility is designed in line with NVIDIA reference architecture standards, allowing international companies and research institutions to deploy and scale AI systems with minimal integration barriers.
It also incorporates sustainability features, operating under a "zero chemical footprint" model and using Armenia's high-altitude climate for natural cooling during most of the year. The company said it also relies partly on solar power to reduce environmental impact.
In addition, 20 percent of the computing capacity will be allocated to Armenian universities, research institutions and non-profit organizations to support education, scientific research and talent development. ■
