MINSK, May 26 (Xinhua) -- Belarusian security forces detected more than 100 attempts by Ukrainian drones to cross into Belarusian airspace over the past week, a Belarusian security official said Tuesday.

Speaking at a Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) meeting in Moscow, Belarusian State Security Council Secretary Alexander Volfovich said Belarus had recorded 116 such attempts during the past week, with Belarusian forces engaging drones 59 times, according to the BelTA news agency.

Volfovich said the security situation along the CSTO borders had become increasingly tense, alleging that some drones were targeting critical infrastructure, including border facilities.

He said Belarusian air defense systems continue to intercept drones attempting to cross the Belarus-Ukraine border and enter Belarusian territory, adding that many of the incidents appeared to be deliberate rather than accidental.

Volfovich also said recent joint training of nuclear-capable forces demonstrated Belarus' readiness to defend its sovereignty.
