BUDAPEST, May 24 (Xinhua) -- Attila Kalnoki Kis, a former world champion modern pentathlete and veteran sports media executive, has been appointed Hungary's new State Secretary for Sports.
According to the latest issue of the Hungarian Official Gazette published on Saturday, Kalnoki Kis was appointed by Interior Minister Gabor Posfai and will oversee the sports portfolio within Hungary's Ministry of the Interior.
Kalnoki Kis enjoyed a decorated athletic career, winning five world championship titles, three European championship titles and 15 Hungarian national titles in modern pentathlon. He also represented Hungary at the Olympic Games.
After retiring from competition, he moved into sports media and administration. He served as editor-in-chief of Nemzeti Sport, Hungary's leading sports daily, and held senior roles at several other sports publications and platforms.
He also worked as executive vice president of Ujpesti Torna Egylet, one of Hungary's oldest multi-sport clubs, and as secretary general of the Hungarian Pentathlon Association. ■
