LONDON, May 14 (Xinhua) -- British Health Secretary Wes Streeting resigned from the government on Thursday, intensifying pressure on Prime Minister Keir Starmer amid growing speculation over a possible Labour leadership challenge.
In a resignation letter posted on social media platform X, Streeting said he had "lost confidence" in Starmer's leadership and could no longer remain in government "honourably and on principle."
Downing Street later said Starmer would contest any leadership challenge and had no intention of stepping aside. ■
