SARAJEVO, May 7 (Xinhua) -- Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) will deploy biometric voter identification and ballot scanners for the first time during the general elections to be held on Oct. 4, the Central Election Commission (CEC) said Thursday.

The new technologies, aimed at strengthening election integrity, accelerating vote counting and improving data collection, will be deployed at all regular polling stations across the country, CEC officials said at a press conference.

CEC President Jovan Kalaba said more than 3.41 million voters have been registered as of May 6. Citizens living abroad may apply for out-of-country voting through the commission's online portal by July 21.

The elections will choose members of the tripartite BiH Presidency, the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH, the leadership and legislatures of the country's entities, as well as cantonal assemblies. A total of 518 officials are expected to be elected, and the official election campaign will begin on Sept. 4.
