PARIS, May 8 (Xinhua) -- The French presidency announced on Friday that France's Ambassador to Algeria Stephane Romatet is returning to his post after being recalled to Paris in April 2025 amid tension between the two countries.
French President Emmanuel Macron wanted the two countries to be able to "restore effective dialogue," the French newspaper Le Figaro reported on Friday.
French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez visited Algeria in February, confirming a cautious thaw in bilateral relations.
A diplomatic crisis has taken hold between Algeria and France since 2024. ■
