SOFIA, May 7 (Xinhua) -- Bulgarian former President Rumen Radev, leader of the Progressive Bulgaria coalition which became the largest political force in the newly elected parliament, proposed a new government here on Thursday.

Radev took the step as Progressive Bulgaria's nominee for prime minister after Bulgarian President Iliana Iotova handed him an exploratory mandate.

The proposal will be submitted to the parliament. The president said she expected the proposal to be discussed and voted on Friday. "Bulgarian citizens have placed great trust in your political force, Progressive Bulgaria," Iotova told Radev.

According to the Bulgarian constitution, it needs to be approved by legislators in a simple majority vote. Progressive Bulgaria has 131 seats in the 240-member parliament.
