LONDON, May 4 (Xinhua) -- Two people have been arrested in a counter-terrorism police investigation into an arson attack on a memorial wall in Golders Green, northwest London, police said Monday.
A 46-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman were arrested on Monday morning at an address in Romford, east London, on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life. They were taken to a London police station where they remain in custody, police said.
Officers are also searching the Romford address as part of the ongoing investigation led by Counter Terrorism Policing London.
The case relates to a reported arson attack at a memorial wall on Limes Avenue in the Golders Green Road area at around 00:15 a.m. on April 27. Police said they received a report of the fire later that day.
Commander Helen Flanagan, head of Counter Terrorism Policing London, said that authorities are working on a number of investigations into incidents in northwest London since an attack on Hatzola ambulances in Golders Green in March, adding that 30 arrests have been made and nine people have been charged.
The arrests came amid heightened security concerns in Golders Green, which has a large Jewish community.
Britain raised its terrorism threat level to "severe" last week after police declared a stabbing attack in Golders Green a terrorist incident. Two Jewish pedestrians were wounded in the attack and a 45-year-old British man born in Somalia was arrested. ■
