MOSCOW/ST. PETERSBURG, May 3 (Xinhua) -- Russian air defense systems shot down more than 300 Ukrainian drones across several Russian regions overnight, the Russian Defense Ministry said Sunday.
"Overnight, on-duty air defense assets intercepted and destroyed 334 Ukrainian fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles across Russian territories," the ministry said.
It added that the attack targeted 16 different regions, including Leningrad and the Moscow metropolitan area.
In the Leningrad region, more than 60 drones were downed during a large-scale attack targeting key infrastructure, regional governor Alexander Drozdenko said on social media. He added that the main target was the Primorsk commercial seaport, a major oil export terminal.
The incident also disrupted air traffic in nearby St. Petersburg, where more than 40 flights at Pulkovo Airport were delayed by two hours or longer, according to the airport's operator. ■
