VILNIUS, April 30 (Xinhua) -- The United States and Lithuania's Defence Materiel Agency have signed an amendment to a contract for purchasing the second HIMARS rocket artillery battery worth about 280 million U.S. dollars, Lithuania's Ministry of National Defence announced on Thursday.

According to the ministry, the additional agreement includes the purchase of extra launchers, as well as combat and training ammunition for the Lithuanian Armed Forces. The package also covers various types of guided missile systems, command and communication equipment, and logistics and training support.

The contract will be implemented by U.S. defense company Lockheed Martin.

Lithuania signed the initial contract with the United States in late 2022, valued at 495 million U.S. dollars, for the acquisition of the first HIMARS rocket artillery battery.

The ministry added that the United States is expected to deliver the first battery later this year.
