BRUSSELS, April 29 (Xinhua) -- Peter Magyar, leader of Hungary's Tisza Party, held talks with European Commission (EC) President Ursula von der Leyen on Wednesday on the release of EU funds earmarked for Hungary, which remain frozen over EU's concerns about Hungary.

Describing his meeting with the EC president as "highly constructive and productive," Magyar said in a post on X that they agreed that he would return to Brussels in the week of May 25 to seek a political agreement on the release of EU funds for Hungary.

The funds have been frozen over EU concerns about corruption and the rule of law in Hungary. Magyar said the EU has not set any conditions that will run counter to Hungary's national interests.

The Tisza party secured a landslide victory in the April 12 parliamentary elections, winning 141 seats in the 199-member National Assembly, paving the way for the formation of a new government led by Magyar.

Magyar has pledged to improve Hungary's relations with the EU. His incoming government is seeking the release of about 18 billion euros (21 billion U.S. dollars) in EU funds, which were frozen during the term of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban's government.
