HELSINKI, April 28 (Xinhua) -- The Swedish government on Tuesday issued an early warning over the risk of aviation fuel shortages amid the ongoing crisis in the Middle East, said reports from the Swedish capital Stockholm.

At a press conference, Energy Minister Ebba Busch said that the warning, based on an assessment by the Swedish Energy Agency, marks the first stage of a three-level response framework for potential fuel disruptions. The initial phase includes public information and voluntary measures to reduce consumption, while stricter steps -- including possible rationing -- would only be considered if the situation deteriorates.

Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said Sweden's energy supply remains stable despite the impact of the Middle East conflict and disruptions to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, but warned that the global situation is "very serious."

Caroline Asserup, director general of the Swedish Energy Agency, said petrol and diesel supplies are not under threat, with the risk of rationing remaining low. Aviation fuel, however, faces greater uncertainty and could be subject to tighter measures in a worst-case scenario.

Authorities also warned that prolonged disruptions could lead to higher transport costs, rising inflation, and slower economic growth.
